Food, Drink and Firewood in Kruger
How much food and drink you bring into the Kruger Park depends on what type of accommodation you are staying in and how much braaing you intend on doing.
If you are staying in self-catering accommodation you can either buy groceries at the main camp shops or buy groceries in shops before you enter the park in towns such as Hazyview, Hazyview, Malelane, Phalaborwa or Nelspruit (City).
Alcohol: You are allowed to bring in alcohol to the park as long as you are an overnight visitor. You can also buy alcohol in the Kruger shops.
Water: We always pack still water when coming to the park and buy more at the camp shops as often as needed. We use the water in taps for teeth brushing and showering. Also please note that you can drink the water in the Kruger taps, we just prefer not to and people who are not local can have stomach sensitivities to the water.
Ice: Ice can be bought at all camp shops.
Meat and Veg: Raw meat ands vegetables can be bought at main camp shops for your braai (BBQ).
Firewood: Firewood can be bought at all camp shops. Do not collect your own firewood within Kruger Park as this is an offence.
Main camp shops vs Bush camp shops:
Main camp shops do have food for sale but the options are more limited than if you went to a store in a town outside the park. However, if you are coming straight from the airport it will have everything you need for your stay.
Bush camp shops only sell water, cool drinks, ice and firewood.
Picnic sites: At picnic sites you can get out of your car and rent a gas skottelbraai at the small picnic shops as well as cool drinks and you can bbq your lunch. Bring cash.
